In recent times we could see that many employees are facing pressure due to work from home. The mental well-being of the employees is at stake. These can affect employees’ physical and mental health.

What is mental well-being?

Mental wellbeing is all about your thoughts and feelings and how you cope up with the ups and downs of your everyday life. A long period of low mental wellbeing can lead to mental health issues.

Companies should be concerned about the mental health of their employees. Job satisfaction is very important for the employees and they shouldn't face a burden on their shoulders.

According to a new study by researchers at the University of Southern California published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. working from home “increased work expectations and distractions, reduced our communications with co-workers, and ultimately lessened our productivity.”

Before pandemic employees used to work at their own desk in the office. And they used to travel from home to office, they get to meet fellow workers, they communicate spend time together, have team lunch, etc…so during this pandemic many employees are missing their quality time spend with their fellow employees. Studies suggest that due to lack of social company many are feeling isolated, lonely, and depressed at home

The study states that the time spent at the workstation has increased by at least 1.5 hours. Workers are also likely to have less job satisfaction.

The productivity of the work is more important than the number of hours employees spend their time in the workstation. Due to long hours, employees feel bored and result in low productivity.

Some companies recognize employee efforts through rewards. They are coming up with a combination of increments, promotions, variable pay, and one-time special bonuses for their employees. Others tend to cut the salary pay of their employees due to the shrinking economy.

But to be honest I think that at the end of the day, employees need job satisfaction and mental as well as physical well-being rather than incentives and appraisals

This may vary from individual to individual. What is your stand on this. Will you choose increment and promotion over job satisfaction?… comment below
